The Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology researches the pharmacogenomics and epigenomics of drug metabolisms and membrane transport and the mechanisms associated with the origins of pain. Its other main focus is on the analysis of molecular interactions and function control and the pharmacological treatment of neurodegenerative illnesses and organ protection using antihypertensives.
The Department is part of the Cluster of Excellence ‘Inflammation at Interfaces’, the Krebszentrum Nord/Comprehensive Cancer Center, the P2N-Biobank and various international networks such as the Danish German InterRegIV Project MoMoTx and the International Severe Adverse Events Consortium (iSAEC). The Department also houses a unit for phase I clinical trials.
Specialities in health care are pharmacotherapy for physicians and pharmacists, in particular with regards to interactions and adverse effects of pharmaceuticals and pharmacogenetic diagnostics.
